Contributing Writer Guidelines

Article Structure

We would like your article to be between 400 and 700 words. However, we are willing to accept longer articles but they would need to be very detailed to justify the length.

May we suggest that you limit paragraphs to 3 sentences or fewer, bullet points and embolden subheadings are good for breaking up large groups of text.

Topics

We’ve listed a few topics below that we believe would be of interest to our readers

  • Technology or business lesson tied in with current news or events
  • Anything related to technology, detailed is preferred to general
  • What’s trending – How technology experts can jump in and take advantage of this trend to help grow their career or business.
  • How-to articles with advice and step-by-step instructions readers can easily follow
  • First hand experience regarding running a business or being a technology professional that are educational, stimulating and may inspire others.
  • Articles taking a viewpoint that is contrary to popular opinion
  • Content centered around technology or business problems that is rarely covered and how to solve them

Images

Images in Articles:  We add images to articles — you do not need to worry about images.

  • Our writers do not need to worry about images. Due to copyright laws, our policy is to only use images that we own, purchased the rights to, images intended for media us, public domain or photographs that our photographers or journalists have taken.

Copyrights

  • As one of our Contributing Writers, you are granting SMART IT Professional the right to use your article or submission and redistribute it by way of our print magazine, newsletters, RSS feed, website, ezine, etc. as long as we give you credit for being the author.

Editing Process

  • We may occasionally make minor edits to your article, grammar, spelling, breaking up long sentences or paragraphs. This is not personal, you will probably agree that it’s usually easier for another set of eyes to go over your work than to edit your own.
  • Every article submitted is seen by at least two other editors on staff and may be sent to everyone on our editorial review board before it is seen in our magazine.
  • Page Links: Our goal is to keep the content found in SMART IT Professional magazine to be of the highest quality at all times. If our editors feel that placement of links seems to be excessive we may require the removal or editing of these links. If your goal is link placement rather than quality content, you may want to seek other avenues for your submissions.
